"SBS is a serious brain injury which occurs when a frustrated caregiver
shakes a child,
usually to stop them from crying." Shaken Baby Alliance
It is estimated that between 1,000 and 1,400 infants and
children fall victim to SBS in The United States each year.
Of those, 25% die within a few days. Thus, if today is
an average day in America, 3-4 children will be violently
shaken when their caregiver loses control.
At least one
of them will die within the next 24 to 48 hours.
SBS is a growing silent epidemic because so many people are still not aware of the dangers of shaking an infant or young child. Learn more about Shaken Baby Syndrome and talk about it. Only through awareness and open discussion will there be a chance to reduce the number of tragedies occurring every day.
